A player cannot manage their period confidently if they cannot reach a toilet, wash their hands or change privately.
Before training or a match
Coaches should know:
- where players can use the toilet
- whether there is a bin for period products
- where a player can change privately
- what the alternative is if the usual facilities are unavailable
At tournaments or away grounds, check facilities when you arrive rather than waiting for a player to need them.
Toilet breaks should be straightforward
A player should not have to explain their period in front of the team to be allowed to use the toilet.
A simple request such as “I need the toilet” should usually be enough.
Privacy matters
Players need somewhere appropriate to change products and deal with stained clothing.
Do not use open team areas for period conversations when a more private option is available.
If the facilities are poor
Find a practical alternative and raise the issue with the club or venue. Period-friendly facilities are part of making football genuinely accessible to players who have periods.
